In this talk, Ruben Andersson will present his book on the European border regime, Illegality, Inc., focusing on how the EU and its member states have created a counterproductive system of controls at the southern borders that feeds on its own tragic failures.

Ruben Andersson is an anthropologist based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. The book is based on his Phd "Clandestine migration and the business of bordering Europe". Ruben’s current research project at LSE is concerned with military and humanitarian intervention in conflict-hit Mali and the wider Sahel.
